Enlisted's next major update centers on light off-road vehicles, turning what has mostly been a transport option into a proper combat tool. The upcoming "Off-Road Patrol" content adds two new squads built specifically around these vehicles, which Gaijin Entertainment says will fight rather than just ferry troops between objectives.

Off-road vehicles were common across every major army in World War II, used for reconnaissance, maintaining communications between units, and occasionally providing fire support for infantry on the move. Enlisted has spent years expanding its vehicle rosters — tanks, aircraft, and now this — and folding these light vehicles into combat squads is the latest step in that build-out.

What changes for squad composition

The new off-road squads won't introduce a brand-new soldier class. Instead, Gaijin is renaming the existing APC Driver class to simply "Driver," a change meant to reflect that the role now covers a broader family of vehicles rather than just armored personnel carriers.

Deployment slots for the new vehicles will share a pool with motorcycles, since off-road squads function similarly to existing Rider squads in how they're used on the battlefield. Riders are also getting a related adjustment: both vehicle types will be able to capture control points, a capability previously limited to infantry and select vehicle classes.

Visual and physics improvements ride along

Beyond the new squads, the update refines combat feedback across the board:

  • Reworked hit and explosion effects aim to make firefights and vehicle destruction feel more immediate
  • New sound design accompanies the visual changes, covering everything from small-arms impacts to vehicle kills
  • Improved physics affect details like ejected shell casings and how bodies react to blast waves, part of Gaijin's ongoing push to make Enlisted's battles feel more chaotic and grounded

This follows a busy year of content for the game. Earlier updates in 2026 included the Operation Neptune battlefields in June, which brought anti-radiation missiles and electronic support measures alongside new vehicles, and an April Fools-turned-permanent addition of Great War-era trench battles with period-accurate weaponry.

What it means for players

None of these changes require a fresh start — existing accounts and unlocks carry over — but the shared deployment pool between off-road vehicles and motorcycles means players who've built their loadouts heavily around Rider squads should plan for more competition over those slots. The class rename from APC Driver to Driver is cosmetic in practice, so progression tied to that class isn't affected.

With Gaijin continuing to layer new vehicle types and battlefield effects onto Enlisted roughly every few months, the game's WWII sandbox keeps getting denser — good news for players who want more tactical options, and a reminder to check patch notes closely before the next major update lands, since squad slot allocations are shifting.
